A Lifelong Educator. A Gentle Guide for
parents.
For more than 30 years, I have had the privilege of helping children build language, literacy, and confidence as an English teacher, ESL educator, and college instructor. Whether teaching elementary students, teenagers, or adults, I discovered one truth that never changed. Children learn best when language is connected to everyday life.
I have always believed that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. The
conversations you share, the books you read together, and the everyday moments you spend
exploring the world all help build vocabulary, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
That belief inspired me to create Spin That List and TappyWheel. These resources are designed
to make language learning simple, practical, and enjoyable for families. My goal is to give
parents easy, meaningful ways to encourage communication and literacy through play,
conversation, and shared experiences.
One poem has stayed with me throughout my teaching career.
You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be,
I had a Mother who read to me.
The Reading Mother by Strickland Gillilan
My hope is that the books, activities, and resources I share encourage parents, caregivers, and educators to make language and literacy a joyful part of everyday life. Together, we can help children build the vocabulary, confidence, and communication skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.
