You do not need a special lesson plan to help your toddler build vocabulary. Some of the best learning moments happen during the everyday routines you already share together. Getting dressed, preparing a snack, taking a walk, cleaning up toys, or getting ready for bed can all become chances to introduce simple, useful words.
Start by talking about what your child can see, touch, hear, or do. You might say, “Your socks are soft,” “The water is warm,” or “Let’s put the spoon in the cup.” Keep your sentences short and natural. Repeating important words across different moments helps children become more familiar with them over time.
Try pausing after you say a word. Give your child a moment to look, point, copy the word, or respond in their own way. There is no need to turn every moment into a quiz. The goal is simply to make language part of your daily connection.
Small conversations add up. When children hear words connected to real experiences, those words begin to feel meaningful, memorable, and useful.
